Module 9 aims to help parents and carers to monitor and manage their substance use. The module provides opportunities to reflect on substance use and ensure that use does not escalate when under pressure.
The module looks at the skills needed to avoid this and helps build confidence in the capacity to undertake this task. For those who have already developed a substance use problem, strategies are discussed that help ensure that potential lapses to use do not become relapses.
Substance use is always considered within a parenting context. Rather than make judgements about use, the PuP program adopts a harm minimisation approach where the needs and safety of the children are paramount.
